Face and Base

First things first primer… I love Prime Time® by bareMinerals® for my face and eyes. It’s light and creates an even canvas for all of your makeup! Priming will also give themakeup something to cling to, making the product last longer.

Next…the foundation. BareMinerals® Complexion Rescue® gives the perfect sheer to moderate coverage foundation without feeling heavy on the face. Apply to your entire face and don’t be afraid to use a little concealer to hide any small blemishes! Now it’s time to “set” your face - this is crucial to making your makeup last all day…even under a mask! BareMinerals® Mineral Veil® is my go-to. Before setting your face with powder, take a tissue or thin paper towel and place it over your face and dab the powder over the tissue with a brush or sponge. This not only sets your makeup but also will prevent your mask from wiping it away. Once you have set with powder, apply your favorite blush and bronzer.

All About the Eyes

First impressions are everything, and while wearing a mask makes that a bit more challenging, it gives you a great opportunity to make your eyes POP! Now that we’re primed and ready to go (sorry...can’t resist a good pun) let's throw on some eyeshadow. Don’t be afraid to try a swathe of color on that inner eyelid, but be sure to keep the darker shades on the outer corner! BLENDING IS YOUR BEST FRIEND! Blend from the outer corner in. Don’t forget to line those eyes! To make your eyes really sparkle, use a light colored eyeliner inside the entire water line. I love the bareMinerals® Mineralist® Eyeliner in Diamond for this technique - it makes my eyes look great and more awake on those no-coffee mornings! Next, line the eyes on the bottom of the lash line with your favorite fall shade! Be sure to only line from the outer corner into the center of the eye, as this will really make the eyes come to LIFE! Don’t forget your eyebrows! Fill them in and shape them up with bareMinerals® Brow Master™. Pencil it through the natural shape of the brows in small, hair like motions. Finally, mascara brings everything together! You're done! AND you look gorgeous!

Lips and a Face Mask? Is she for real?!

Do it! I’ll tell you how. Choose your favorite lip color. BareMinerals® Mineralist® Lipstick is extremely moisturizing, and the color palette is BEAUTIFUL. Apply it as normal. This year, more than ever, we all long to be outside and enjoy summer activities. We have been cooped up far too long! This means more time in the sun, heat and environment. No need to skip out on all the fun, follow my tips for a foolproof summer.

Here are some of my favorites….

Oil Control

Increased heat and humidity usually leads to increased oil production. Summer is a good time to lighten the skin care products’ formulas, but definitely don’t over cleanse or stop moisturizing. It will tend to be counterproductive and increase production of excess oil.

Salicylic acid is lipophilic, meaning it dissolves oil. It will penetrate into the pores and regulate sebum secretion. Combined with glycolic acid, it will also remove dead skin cells that can clog pores. Skin Dimensions Clarifying Cleanser and Treatment Pads contain both ingredients and are a great option for oily skin.

Skin Dimensions Hydrating Day Cream is ultra-light and can be used day and night. It gives the skin just enough moisture to help with oil control and doesn’t leave any greasy feeling.

Dirt Control

Exfoliation is a key way to keep skin free of summer dirt and debris.

Skin Dimensions C-Scrub Vitamin C Skin Brightening Polish is my pick for summer. Most exfoliates should only be used a couple times a week. Over-exfoliation is not a good thing, C-Scrub is gentle enough to use every day. In addition, its bio-friendly micro beads contain Vitamin C, a key summer ingredient. Your skin will be cleaner, brighter and renewed.

Environmental Protection

Sun

When it comes to outdoors, we all know we need to wear sunscreen to protect ourselves from the sun. Crazy enough, I find the fear of aging is far scarier to people than the fear of skin cancer. 80% of aging is caused from the sun*. I find that statistic incredible. Regardless of your reason, wearing sunscreen is a must.

My favorite is Skin Dimensions Vita-Tint Glow. It is a broad spectrum SPF 50+ so it protects against UVA, UVB and Blue light. It also has a universal tint that leaves my skin more even-toned and glowing. It is water resistant so perfect for looking your best by the pool.

Environment

Not everyone thinks about all the other extrinsic causes of aging. Smoking, poor diet, air pollution, lack of sleep are all examples. I love nothing more than sitting around a campfire, but if my skin is not protected, I find myself crazily thinking of the aging I’m doing verses enjoying the outdoors.

Skin Dimensions Shield Environmental Protection is packed full of antioxidants that protect the skin from daily damage and calm redness and irritation. I don’t ever head for the outdoors without it!

Inflammation

Outdoors can equal inflammation. Skin Dimensions Mist Fix is always in my purse. It is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, which is great to address all the pesky outdoor buzz kills. I originally started using it for its hydration and toning benefits, but after seeing all its soothing and calming properties it was quickly coined my “magic spray”. Mild sunburn, bug bites, plant irritations, dog scratches, skinned knees, pimples, etc all get sprayed for an instant relief. Yes, I’m that crazy lady you’ve probably seen spraying away!

Get a manicure & pedicure:

It’s crazy how something like that can change your attitude. Getting a new, exciting color or maybe a little glitter will always do the trick. Those in the nail industry know these are little therapy sessions for us all. There is not judgement, just a place for us to speak our minds about whatever is bothering us these days. When you have your nails done it just feels like everything is going to be ok. We have added those little extras into our pedicures and manicures for that special touch.

It’s facial time:

OOH….nothing beats a great facial. Just to sit back, zone out, and be pampered. We never did this enough before let alone now and you deserve it after this year. My husband would kill me for saying this, but eventually he’ll get over it. He once told me “massages are great, but there is nothing better than a facial.” That being said, facials are for everyone young, old, male, female, and everyone in between. There is a perfect facial for you and whatever you need for that day. An added bonus you r skin looks and feels amazing. You only have one self so why not take care of the skin you’re in.

Lastly…products:

Now I’m a sucker for some retail therapy, but the gratification of a new skincare product and realizing a few days or a few weeks later when you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror you have that “ah-ha” moment “my skin looks fantastic!” Well worth the investment with a huge return. We have come out with some fantastic new products for all things skin during COVID life.

I first starting hearing my co-workers complain about breaking out from working in their masks all day. Then I started noticing changes in my own skin and it didn’t end with just breakouts. I’ve had to make many adjustments to my normal summertime regimen due to mask related issues.

Clogged Pores

In order to combat my pores from becoming clogged, exfoliation is a must right now. Skin Brightening Polish is now my daily go to cleanser. Not only does it brighten but it is a great exfoliator and gentle enough to use every day. Packed with glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and botanicals, it not only exfoliates, but brightens and refines pore size without being too aggressive.

Breakouts & Sensitivity

Daily Environment Shield has always been one of my favorite products to help protect from environment but now it’s become “my can’t live without product”. Now I’m having to shield from my own mask. I noticed I would come home from work and my face would be all red from my mask rubbing on my face all day. Not only does Daily Environmental Shield provides a barrier, but it’s packed with green tea polyphenols which combat redness and prevent breakouts thanks to its anti-bacterial properties.

When I’m unable to prevent a breakout I go to my teenage son’s bathroom and grab his Benzoyl Peroxide 5%. While we think of this product for young individuals, it works wonders for adult hormonal acne and it my case acne caused from bacteria under my mask. Using this product quickly reduces the size, redness, and life of my breakouts so I can feel confident mask-free at home!

Last but not least, you must wear a clean mask. I compare masks to underwear, and you would not consider wearing the same pair of underwear for days or weeks without washing. The easiest way to stop the bacteria that is causing your breakouts is not transferring it from a dirty mask.

Dehydration

Probably the issue I was most surprised about was how dehydrated my skin was by the end of the day. Then I started thinking about how my paper mask was acting as a moisture wicking all of the water out of my skin. It was so dry at the end of the day that is was painful. I starting using Skin Quencher which is a hyaluronic product. Hyaluronic holds 1,000X its weight in water, making it intensely hydrating… like a glass of water for your skin! We all think of hyaluronic as something that plumps the skin and moisturizes. One of the types of hyaluronic in Skin Quencher is hydrolyzed which means it penetrates deep down to the dermis and prevents trans epidermal water loss, restoring the hydration my skin has lost throughout the day. Perfect solution!

My last step is finishing with Hydrating Night Cream. This product can be used both day and night and offer intense hydration and barrier repair;as my mask tends to disrupt my barrier, resulting in flaking, redness, and sensitivity. When working in my mask all day, I opt to not wear makeup underneath. Just one more way to prevent dirt and bacteria and help keep my mask cleaner throughout the day.

Daily Fix

One last trick in my tool bag is Mist Fix. Mist Fix is the instant “AHHH” my skin craves throughout the day, quickly adding back hydration and essential nutrients, re-awakening my complexion. We keep a bottle in the spa office and I have everyone spray it on their faces thru the day. Not only is it antimicrobial to help the spread of bacteria but it has green tea and chamomile to calm the skin, and humectants to provide hydration throughout the day. The size is perfect to keep in your purse for your all day fix!

Adaptability is probably the greatest asset to have right now. When it comes to skincare, just because you’ve always done it, doesn’t mean it’s the best option. Skin Dimensions® MistFix - $15
I’m putting this first on the list in case you get distracted and don’t read the whole blog! This is my savior!!! I get giant bug bites that are relentless, and I always manage to miss a spot with my SPF (back of neck, random cutout, feet). This is everything. It’s super soothing. It’s cooling. It’s hydrating. It calms heat rashes. It helps with random zits from humidity and increased sweat. It’s also $15!!! GET THIS!

Guinot® Bioxygene Cleansing Foam - $39
I bounce between cleanser textures and brands, but in the summer I also want something the give you the “squeaky” clean. This is that cleanser, but because it contains fatty acids, it doesn’t ever make my skin feel tight or stripped. Also, in my opinion, this is the freshest smelling stuff ever! So good!

Skin Dimensions® Hydrating Night Cream - $84
OK, this may be subjective but just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you can’t have a super nourishing face cream! This is my “over 30 I need to start doing something” cream. I use it during the daytime because it soaks right in. It has a bunch of yummy ingredients that I don’t want to miss out on just because the sun is out!

Supergoop!® PLAY Antioxidant Body Mist with Vitamin C SPF 50 - $21
Supergoop! is such a great line as a whole with their focus on clean ingredients…their mist is a no-brainer! It’s easy to apply, non-aerosol, it smells nice and it’s not sticky! I can even get my husband to use it before mowing. Done!

Supergoop!® GlowScreen SPF 40 - $36
This is a new one – and if you’re addicted to social media like I am you’ve probably already seen it a few times. I don’t wear much makeup on the weekend (or apparently during a stay at home order) and although it’s a “primer” I found that this by itself is so nice. It’s a little blurring, plus glowy, with SPF and it feels good.

Norvell® Venetian Self Tanning Mousse + Mitt - $30 + $10.50
I could use a little help in the tan department. I’ve learned to embrace my fair skin even though sometimes I feel I could blind people in direct sunlight. I have tried my fair share of self tanner fails over the years – and what looks good on darker skin tones can look crazy wrong on fair skin. Norvell does not! This mousse comes out a violet/brown color and successfully makes me 2 shades bronzier. I use the mitt every time. I watched a YouTube video by Whitney Simmons on how to apply a perfect self-tanner. I follow her instruction exactly because it works!

BareMinerals® Mineralist Lipstick - $20
These are so pretty (I’m a sucker for good packaging). They’re vegan, clean and hydrating. The colors are spot on! I use on my cheeks because I LOVE dewy cheeks in the summer. ‘Memory’ is a great rosy shade that’s not too girly. If you’re feeling bold ‘Optimism’ is this perfect Red/Pink mix that sheers out to such a pretty flush and leaves a bit of a stain behind.

Nudestix® Matte Nudies in Sunkissed: This is that amazing color in-between a tan and a burn – because a fake burn is the best burn!

Fresh® Sugar Blood Orange Hydrating Lip Balm: This is the best summery scent in history, it’s sitting next to me right now.

HaruHaru™ Wonder Black Rice Facial Oil: I have a secret love for Korean skincare, and I’ve also tried about a dozen facial oils. This one is the BEST summer oils! Also this oil is best for people who don’t think they like facial oil.

What’s different for winter?

Winter Cleansing Cream

We took the formulation of our loved Antioxidant Cleanser and gave it a rich creamy base so it would gently cleanse and moisturize without drying the skin. Then we packed it full of Green Tea Polyphenols (highest of any of our cleansers), which is soothing for compromised and dry irritated skin. I love that my skin feels hydrated and soothed immediately after cleansing.

Winter Night Cream

Winter Screen

Naming this product was important to me. Most consumers don’t think they need to wear a sunscreen in the winter time. I wanted to make it clear that we are protecting from the winter season in general. Not only do we need protection from the harmful rays of the sun, but environmental winter damage as well.
